Joseph Mbeng Boum

Joseph is a dedicated and accomplished science journalist with over 15 years of experience. He is passionate about promoting science communication in Africa and has played a key role in developing the field.

He currently serves as the President of the African Confederation of Science Journalists and Vice-President of the World Federation of Science Journalists. He is also the founder and publisher of three prominent health and environment publications: ECHOS SANTE, Health News, and Afrik Environnement. He also serves as President of the National Association of Science Journalists and Communicators for Health Promotion (AJC-PROSANTE).

His awards and recognition include:

  • April 2023: Winner of the National Prize for the Fight Against Malaria, awarded by the US Embassy and Ministry of Health.
  • December 2021: Recipient of a grant to cover COVID-19 stories, from DNDI.
  • December 12, 2018: Winner of the National Leadership Award on Universal Coverage in Cameroon.
  • October 2016: Winner of the contest for best media productions on Global Fund grants in Cameroon, organized by For Impacts In Social Health.

He has also received the Silver and Vermeil Medals of Honor and Labor from the Cameroonian government.

Joseph is strongly committed to fostering excellence in science journalism. He has organized numerous conferences and workshops and actively participates in international forums to advance the profession.

 

The World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ) will take place at the CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria, South Africa from 1 – 5 December 2025, with the theme “Science Journalism and Social Justice – our role in promoting resilience”.
