HOSTS AND ORGANISERS
The conference is hosted by the South African Science Journalists’ Association (SASJA) and the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa (SDCfA), an initiative and entity of the National Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), in collaboration with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
South African Science Journalists’ Association (SASJA)
SASJA has been advocating for science journalism and representing science journalists at home and on the world stage for close on two decades. A long-time member of the World Federation of Science Journalists, this small organisation gained leverage and clout by partnering with the Southern African Freelancers Association (safrea) and is now a safrea Special Interest Group. SASJA’s president has served as vice president of the World Federation of Science Journalists.

Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa (SDCfA)
The SDCfA, an initiative of South Africa’s Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), promotes science collaboration across Africa and beyond towards leveraging and connecting technology innovation with humanity. Tshwane is the executive capital of South Africa, and the city was selected to be the home of the SDCfA because most of the 196 foreign embassies and mission in South Africa are based here, with 46 representing countries in Africa, also, the city is home to the highest number of universities and research institutes in the country. Many international agencies, South African Science Councils, as well as a thriving community of private sector entities involved in science, research, development, and industrialisation call Tshwane their home. The symbiotic location in Tshwane of these roleplayers makes the City the ideal place for the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa – with the CSIR International Convention Centre, as its physical hub.
